For the fast and secure storage of data, relational database systems have set the standard in professional business computing environments. With PostgreSQL we included a highly standardized (SQL92/SQL99) database management system, that is able to compete with commercial database systems. PostgreSQL has an enormous number of features (object-relational functionality, transaction processing, constraints, views and so on), it provides a good performance and is highly scalable up to the terrabyte sector (also on operation systems which have a limitized file size, like ext2 with 2GB). It's also possible to access PostgreSQL on Windows. This can be done with the ODBC driver that is included in FreeGee as well.

The PostgreSQL software itself had its beginnings in 1986 inside the University of California at Berkeley as a research prototype, and in the 17 years since has moved to its now globally distributed development model.
